The hydrolysis of 1,4-butyrolactone is reversible, and under neutral conditions, lactones are produced. Pyrolysis of 1,4-butyrolactone occurs when it is heated to 305 ℃ in an airtight manner. 1,4-butyrolactone is stable under acidic conditions, but under alkaline conditions, it can undergo various chemical reactions such as oxidation, reduction, hydrolysis, condensation, amination, esterification, addition, halogenation, and alkylation, generating a series of important chemical products.
