2023-03-13

Tetrahydrofuran, also known as oxacyclopentane, 1, 4-epoxy butane, is a heterocyclic organic compound, chemical formula is C4H8O, belongs to the ether class, is a complete hydrogenated product of furan, colorless transparent liquid, soluble in water, ethanol, ethyl ether, acetone, benzene, etc. CAS No.:109-99-9.

THF is mainly used as solvent, chemical synthesis intermediate and analytical reagent.

Its vapor and air can form explosive mixtures. High heat, open flame and strong oxidant are easy to cause combustion. Potentially explosive peroxides can be formed by exposure to air or light. Can react in contact with acids. It reacts violently with potassium hydroxide and sodium hydroxide. Its vapor is heavier than air, can spread to a considerable distance at a lower place, when the fire source will catch fire back.

THF has stimulative and anesthetic effects. Inhalation causes upper respiratory tract irritation, nausea, dizziness, headache, and central nervous system depression. Can cause liver and kidney damage. Liquid or high concentration vapors are irritating to the eyes. Dermatitis can occur due to repeated exposure to the skin for a long time.
