The Chinese name of nmp is N-methylpyrrolidone. N-methylpyrrolidone is an organic compound, colorless and transparent oily liquid with a slight smell of amine. Low volatility, good thermal stability and chemical stability, volatile with water vapor, hygroscopic, sensitive to light. It is easily soluble in water, ethanol, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, chloroform and benzene, and can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds.

N-methylpyrrolidone is a colorless liquid with ammonia odor and low toxicity. It is not only miscible with water, but also soluble in most organic solvents such as ether and acetone. It can dissolve most organic and inorganic compounds, polar gases, natural and synthetic polymer compounds.

N-methylpyrrolidone is relatively stable in neutral solution. If it is placed in 4% sodium hydroxide solution, 50%~70% of it will be hydrolyzed after 8 hours. When placed in concentrated hydrochloric acid, hydrolysis will occur gradually to produce 4-methylaminobutyric acid. Ketals or thiopyrrolidone can be generated due to the carbonyl reaction.
